Lucinda Wolters

Dr. Lucinda Wolters brings a passion for authentic and productive conversations with educators that dig into the tough topics of educational and organizational transformation, whether one to one, or in groups, small and large. It is her intention to promote purposeful collective thinking, expressing, and listening, in order to co-construct shared understanding and decision-making that may disrupt the status quo, to ultimately have a positive impact on systems and individuals. She recognizes leadership development at all levels is key to accomplish this.

Since 2015, Dr. Wolters has been actively learning and sharing her passion for the Adaptive Schools work, developed by Robert Garmston and Bruce Wellman. With a foundational focus on systems thinking, this work fosters the development of collective identity and shared ownership to be better able to address challenges in education and organizations today. Lucinda is currently an Agency Trainer of the Adaptive Schools Foundation Seminar for Comox Valley Schools and is working towards being a Training Associate to promote this work beyond her district.

Dr. Wolters has been an educator since 1997 and an elementary school administrator since 2009. She has a Master of Arts in Leadership Studies as well as a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy.  Her doctorate explored the influence of Adaptive Schools training on the development of principals' leadership identity with clear and promising results. A key theme that emerged was the need for this kind of training for today's leaders, given the complexity in our systems today. The exploration and development of one's leadership identity, beliefs and values, is foundational to inform how one leads and is more critical than ever. Master's level learning is insufficient for current leaders to be equipped to lead.

Lucinda, which means “Bringer of Light,” hopes to continue to highlight the leadership identities, mindsets, and skills necessary for the essential work that makes a significant difference in our organizations. She lives on Vancouver Island with her husband, Michael, two daughters, Emiko and Elska, and cat, Kiyoko, who remind her to eat well, to not worry if the house gets a little messy, and to let down her hair more often. She is happy to indulge most of the time. Occasional Flue Vog shoe shopping, she has discovered, helps.
